A letter from the Front, July 25, 1862.
A Union Soldier describes his life in the battle field

In July of 1862 a member of General Brook's First Brigade wrote home to his wife and children. The letter included sketches and stories for the boys, advise to his wife about a dispute over a melodeons, fatality statistics and speculation on McClellan's strategy for attacking Richmond, VA.

The letter was found in the walls of a home on Kenyon Road that was owned by the Sherman family in the 1860's. Frank Livack recently donated it to the Richmond Historical Society. We, along with the Society, are truly grateful to him for sharing it with our community.

This letter is currently on display at the Richmond Free Library, Richmond, VT, and a typed transcript is available near that display.
